The project of green solar plants, which will produce 3 megawatt electricity at Indraprastha Power Station, has been started. Delhi Secretariat will be the first secretariat in the country which will be run with the solar power energy.
Government officials in Delhi Government said the project has been started at the vacant land of power station and soon it will be completed. “This is the initiative of Delhi Government to make national Capital a solar city,” said a Government official. “The set up for this plant is not permanent and considered procure for the land,” official added further.
This solar power is a joint venture of Delhi Government and Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE). The plant will be equipped with the State of the art technology which is enabled with a tracker mechanism to track the moment of the sun for maximum output.
Delhi environmentalists have welcomed this project and said by using this hi- tech solar power plant, the pollution level at adjoining areas will reduce. “Although the project is minor but the success of this solar plant can bring more such project. Definitely, it is a good alternative to produce electricity without using coal,” said Gopal Krishnan, Environmentalist, Toxic Watch Alliance. “With the running of this project, the State Government should also bring a policy or a mechanism for the disposal of batteries that will use to save power.” he added.
