Women's safety: Gurugram Police to deploy marshals in city buses

Published on:

Gurugram Police has decided to provide security to women in public transport and are mulling over a plan to deploy trained marshals in buses to put a check on incidents of eve-teasing and violence against women. The scheme will be set rolling on Raksha Bandhan.

According senior officers, these marshals will patrol in buses in groups. Each group will have 2-3 marshals. They will be having walkie-talkies to be in touch with each other.

"The very presence of these marshals will give confidence and a feeling of security among women and girls  who use public transport as a safe mode of commuting during the festival," Commissioner of Gurugram Police, Sandeep Khirwar, said.

"Gurugram Police is fully committed to ensure the safety and security of women and girls in the city and it is over endeavour to make Gurugram safer for women and girls," Khirwar added.

Apart from this, women police personnel will also be deployed in other public places like bus stands, metro stations, railway station and markets. These marshals will be in civvies and will keep an eye onsocial elements, the Commissioner said.

"Police Control Room (PCR) vans and bike patrols will be on alert to ensure that women and girls reach their destinations. This is also aimed at curbing street crime and the deployment will be round the clock," Khirwar added.

"The Station House Officers would be put on alert and will also be patrolling in their areas," the police chief said.
