For the first time in over one decade, women personnel have been deployed as toll plaza attendants at Kherki Dhaula toll plaza.
Skylark Securities Private limited, the toll company, has appointed 11 women toll collectors and all of them are from Varanasi.
The company will soon deploy 15 more female attendants from Bihar at the toll plaza in coming days. Their working hours will be from 8 am to 4 pm six days a week and they will be able to take a one-hour lunch break and two breaks of 15 minutes in a day for personal needs.
The new appointees have attended seven days computer training program under Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gramin Kaushal Yojna, the toll company claimed.
When asked why they decided to employ women as attendants at the toll plaza, an official from the toll company said, “It will increase women empowerment. Moreover, the women are hard working and they can handle situations better,” he said.
“We know that women attendants can handle any situation calmly and they can tackle the commuters professionally,” said TC Rao, chairman, Skylark Securitas Private limited, the company that operates the toll plaza.
“We are not less than anybody. If we, the girls can join the Army and the Paramilitary Forces, why cannot we be toll attendants. We can face any challenge without any fear and hesitation,” said a woman toll attendant.
“We are not scared and we all are trained well to deal with the toll customers,” she added.
