Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Saturday said women are the backbone of society and are contributing tirelessly to healthcare and education.
Speaking at an Equality Walkathon organised by Fortis Hospital Shalimar Bagh on International Women’s Day, she reiterated the government’s commitment to the ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ campaign, stressing that empowering women through education and healthcare was key to the overall societal growth.
The Chief Minister said, “Women are the backbone of our society, contributing tirelessly across diverse fields be it
healthcare, education, business, or
public service”.
“They should prioritise their health and overall well-being. Together, let us build a future where gender equality is not just a goal but a lived reality,” she added.
Gupta said, “We started the ‘Save the Daughter’ campaign, and today, we have reached the ‘Empower the Daughter’ campaign. We must focus on making daughters self-reliant. There should be no difference between sons and daughters. As a father figure, Narendra Modi has given great respect to this daughter, and I am thankful for it. If we provide someone with good health, consider their life improved,” Rekha Gupta added.
The Chief Minister also praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for uplifting women through the Ujjwala Yojana, adding, “Today, with the double-engine government in Delhi, we are providing excellent healthcare services in all Delhi hospitals. Government hospitals should have good facilities so that people do not need to rush to private hospitals. Thousands of Jan Aushadhi Centers have been opened across India.”
Gupta also stressed the need for providing better educational opportunities as well as health and well-being to women, which can help them march forward in their lives.
“Reiterating the government’s message of ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao, Beti Badhao’, I would like to say that the society must progress by prioritising the education of daughters - not just for their academic growth, but also for their overall well-being,” said the Chief Minister, while also highlighting the need for the national Capital to get good health services.
“Delhi should become the most developed health hub in the country. Every citizen should get convenient medical services, and no one should be deprived of the right treatment,” she said.
Highlighting women’s vital contributions across fields, she urged them to prioritise their health and well-being. “Together, let us build a future where gender
equality is not just a goal but a lived
reality,” she added.
The walkathon, which saw the participation of around 400 people, aimed to promote gender equality and equal opportunities for women.
Themed ‘Accelerate Action for Gender Equality’, the event featured banners and placards advocating women’s rights.
A ‘Women’s Empowerment Programme’ was also held, featuring a panel discussion with doctors on women’s health challenges, workplace equality, and inclusive growth.
