A 75-year-old woman was murdered at her residence in Northwest Delhi's Shalimar Bagh area on Friday.
The elderly woman's throat was found slit with sharp edged weapons by two persons, allegedly posing as plumbers, said police.
Aslam Khan, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northwest) said, "Raj Rani, 75, was found murdered at around 4 pm on Friday. She had stab injury on her neck. House is ransacked and her bangles and money is missing. It seems to be friendly entry as some plumbing and electric work was being carried out in her house,"
The incident highlights yet again the issue of lack of safety for senior citizens in the national Capital. Police said the incident came to light on Friday evening when the son of the deceased, identified as Rajrani Grover came home and found her lying in a pool of blood. Police suspect robbery as one of the main motives behind the cold blooded murder as all the belongings were lying scattered in the house, while Rajrani was lying on the sofa.
According to a senior police officer, "The incident was reported on Friday evening when son of Rajrani, lakshay Grover came to pick up his mother to take her to his house. Instead, he found his mother drenched in blood. Gold jewellery was missing. He then raised an alarm and informed his family members who called at the police control room.
The woman was rushed to a nearby hospital where she was declared brought dead. Post mortem will take place on Saturday."
The officer further said she lived alone in her flat in AG block area of Shalimar Bagh. Her husband had died a couple of years ago and her children lived with their respective families in the same area, her two sons and daughters are married.
"As per the preliminary investigation, in the 2 CCTV cameras found near the victim's house, we have spotted one unidentified man outside the house."
Police added that they are making efforts to identify the accused.
