The elder sister of the man, who had allegedly pushed a 21-year-old girl off the balcony of her house in outer Delhi’s Mangolpuri area on Monday after she “refused” to accept his marriage proposal, has been arrested.

A senior police official said, Manju, the elder sister of the accused Amit, was arrested on Wednesday from her house in Uttam Nagar.

Amit had allegedly threatened the girl to accept his marriage proposal but when she refused, he “pushed” her from the balcony of her house in Avantika Enclave in a fit of rage.

Amit was accompanied by his two elder sisters and nephew when he had forcibly entered the girl’s house and fought with her and her family, police said.

During investigation, it was found that one of Amit’s sisters, Manju, had a hand in the attack, added the official.

The victim is currently undergoing treatment at Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital where her condition is said to be stable.

Amit has also been claiming that the girl had borrowed Rs 1 lakh from him and wasn’t returning it, police said. Amit had apparently befriended the girl on Facebook around two years ago and the two got into a relationship, he said.

When the parents carried out a background check on Amit, they found that he was unemployed. However, Amit kept pressurising the woman and her family for marriage.

“According to Amit, he had gone to recover his money from the girl and in order to shift the blame on him, she jumped off the balcony,” a police officer had said.

The girl’s family had lodged a complaint with police before the incident alleging that Amit had threatened to create a scene in front of their house if they didn’t return his money, he said.
