A 34-year-old woman purportedly shot herself in the forehead with her husband’s licenced revolver after trading zingers with him in East Delhi’s Gandhi Nagar area on Thursday night. While the husband feigned ignorance over his wife’s extreme move, the woman’s family screamed blue murder.

local area police are conducting investigation into the supposed suicide. In gun-based suicides, police surmise the weapon is usually aimed at the temple, not the forehead.

The incident took place on Thursday night at 9 pm in lane no. 6 of Kailash Nagar. The woman has been identified as Rashi Jain. Her husband Vardhman Jain is a cloth merchant. On Thursday, the couple had a heated argument. Rashi stormed out of the room to their bedroom where she locked herself in. Vardhman asked their son to check in on her. This is when a gunshot was heard. A panicky Vardhman broke open the door to see his wife in bed with a bullet to the head. She was rushed to lNJP Hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

The crime scene appeared disturbed. A team of forensics and ballistics were called in to vet the scene. The husband claimed Rashi was suffering from a protracted illness. Police officials are questioning the family. “A three-panel team of doctors will be conducting the post-mortem. No case has been registered as yet,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Ajay Kumar.
