In a shocking incident, a 25-year-old woman was allegedly raped by her husband’s uncle in Noida on Wednesday night. The accused, Harbhajan Singh (50), allegedly spiked her cold drink with sedatives and then assaulted her. Police have registered a case and arrested the accused from his hideout in Greater Noida.
According to police, the family of the victim came to Delhi from ludhiana, in search of employment. “Family was in touch with Harbhajan for a long time, who had assured jobs to the victim and her husband. On Wednesday, they met Harbhajan at the Botanical Garden Metro station at 11 pm and he sent her husband to meet someone for a job interview. He took the unsuspecting woman and her son in his Innova to his friend’s house in Aravali Apartments at Sector 52, instead of taking them to Greater Noida where he resides,” said a senior police officer, investigating the case.
The victim’s husband, in his complaint, alleged that his wife was offered a cold drink, which left her benumbed. “Harbhajan sexually assaulted my wife. He also beat her up and tried to strangle her when she resisted his advances and fled from the flat later. My wife later called me and narrated the whole ordeal and I alerted the police.”
Police have registered a case under Sections 376 and 506 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at Sector 24 Police Station and have arrested the accused, who has denied all allegations and claimed that he was being framed by the woman to extort money from him. He said that the woman had taken money from him earlier as well. Police have sent the woman to a district hospital for a medical exam. Further investigation hinges on the report.
