A 25-year-old woman was arrested on Sunday, for allegedly stealing Rs 1 lakh from the purse of a woman shopping in Select Citywalk mall in Saket. Police also recovered 16 ladies purses from her possession, police said.
“The accused was identified as Nazish Jahan (25), a resident of Jamia Nagar.
On Saturday, we received a complaint from one Devi Cherain regarding a theft of Rs 1 lakh from her purse while she was shopping at Select Citywalk Mall,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Vijay Kumar stated.
“A First Information Report (FIR) was registered at Saket police station and investigation was being taken up. During investigation, all the CCTV footages of the places she visited were checked.
It was noticed that a woman was constantly following the complainant and took out an envelope from her purse while she was distracted,” said the DCP.
According to police, the woman was identified as Nazish Jahan (25) and she was arrested from her residence in Jamia Nagar on Sunday morning. The entire stolen amount of Rs 1 lakh was recovered from her possession. Police also recovered 16 stolen wallets from the accused woman.
“During questioning, she revealed that she used to visit malls and markets to steal ladies purses after following them for a while.
She was previously also found involved in a case of theft at Tughlak road Police Station,” DCP said.
