Four days after a 25-year-old woman allegedly mowed down a 2-year-old boy in Southwest Delhi’s Palam area, CCTV footage of the incident emerged on Sunday.
The footage shows the boy running on a road and an i-20 car coming from behind, crushing him under its wheels. His mother is seen picking up the boy and running after the car for a distance, screaming at the errant woman driver to stop the vehicle. The woman slows down the car after some time. The vehicle gets instantly surrounded by local crowd.
According to police, the incident took place on Wednesday afternoon when the victim, Deepak, was playing near his home. His mother, Preeti, was also following him.
Deepak was declared brought dead in DDU hospital. He was the only child of his parents and celebrated his birthday in June.
A senior police officer said that an FIR was registered under sections 304-a and 279 of the IPC at Palam police station. The woman driver was arrested. However, she was later released on bail.
