A 36-year-old woman committed suicide by hanging from the ceiling fan in front of her four year old daughter in Northeast Delhi’s New Usmanpur area on Sunday afternoon. senior police officers of the Northeast district said that no suicide note has been recovered from the possession of the deceased woman. Police suspect that the woman ended her life a day after her lover committed suicide. The lover lived next door in the same locality.
According to the police, the deceased has been identified as Ruby.
Police said that the incident was reported at around 12:15pm when Ruby was alone at her home with her three children. “She lived in the Shastri Park area with her husband and three children. On Sunday afternoon, she sent her two elder children to get milk from a nearby shop. By the time, they came back, they found that their mother was hanging from the ceiling fan and the four year old daughter was crying,” said a senior police officer.
The senior police officer further said, “The children informed the neighbours who in turn informed Ruby’s husband. Police was called in. Neighbours of Ruby claimed that she was having an extra marital affair with a man, identified as Raees, who lived nearby. On Saturday, Raees too committed suicide,”
Police said that the neighbours informed police that Ruby and Raees were having an extra marital affair and when Ruby’s husband found out about it, he yelled at Raees to stay away from Ruby. Following which Raees ended his life.
Police on Sunday said that they have kept the body of Ruby for post mortem at a nearby hospital which is likely to take place on Monday.
Inquest proceedings have been initiated in the matter.
