In what comes as a success for odd-even phase-II, a 26-year-old woman on Tuesday gave birth in the moving car and got timely medical attention due to less traffic on roads. Tara Khan was on her way to the hospital after she received labour pain at home. She, a resident of Mustafabad when going to the Kasturba Gandhi Hospital delivered a baby girl in the moving car in the evening.

Dilshad Khan, Tara’s husband thanking the car-rationing scheme, said, “We never thought that she will give birth midway but thankfully even after her delivery, we reached hospital on time as there was no congestion on roads.”

“The scheme has saved my wife and daughter…who got medical aid on time and are undergoing treatment,” he added.

The incident took place near the Usmanpur area, which is said to be congested during evening in usual days. However, the relatives of Tara said, “There was no long tailback on the road that helped us reach on time.” On reaching the hospital, doctors shifted the patient to gynecology department and the newborn to medical observation.

Meanwhile, health experts said, “A pregnant woman needs immediate medical attention during the time of delivery. Without proper treatment, both the life of mother and baby can be in danger,” while adding, “Thankfully odd-even helped the couple.”

“It may be noted that northeast Delhi is said to witness one of the busiest roads in the Capital. On usual days, long tailbacks with traffic congestion have been witnessed and reported but on Tuesday, Odd-Even phase-II came as a rescue for the couple,” said a Delhi Traffic police official.
