A 19-year-old woman was allegedly gangraped by an autorickshaw driver, who gave her a lift, and four other men near Bhondsi area in Gurugram on Wednesday night. The police have registered a case and investigation is underway.
The survivor, who lives in a village few kilometres from Sohna and a native of Aligarh in Uttar Pradesh, told police that she was waiting for a bus at Sohna bus stand around 8 pm on Wednesday when the auto-rickshaw driver offered her a lift.
“The victim in her complaint to the police said she was waiting for a bus for Aligarh at Sohna tempo stand at 8 pm. Seeing her alone, the accused auto driver approached her, telling her she was like his sister and offered to drop her,” said Guurgram Police spokesperson Ravinder Kumar.
“He told her that the bus plying for Aligarh had left and she could pick a bus to Aligarh from Gurugram. He promised to drop her following which she boarded the auto,” he said.
She agreed to take a lift but the driver took a turn towards Raisina crusher zone around 10 km from the Sohna bus stand and after a while, the accused stopped the vehicle at a secluded spot where four of his friends were already present, Kumar said.
“I saw four other persons waiting there. The accused caught hold of me and they took turns to rape me and also threatened to kill me if I told anyone about the rape and fled from the scene. Somehow i was able to note registration number of auto,” she told the police.
The woman reached home and told her family members about the sexual assault and they took her to the police the next day.
“A case has been registered against unknown persons at Bhondsi police station. Hunts are on to nab the culprits. The probe into the matter is underway the accused would be nabbed soon,” the spokesperson said.
“A case has been registered in Bhondsi police station and investigation is underway to identify the accused persons,” he said, adding that the police have questioned many suspected auto drivers but no arrests have been made so far.An accused identified as Aakash (22) a resident of Dhunela village in Gurugram has been arrested in connection with the Bhondsi gang rape case, the police, said.
