Woman found hanging with baby in SW Delhi

Published on:

A mother along with her five-month-old baby girl was found hanging at their residence in South-West Delhi’s Bharat Vihar area on Monday night. The husband of the victim has been detained for questioning by police.

Police investigations have revealed that their relationship was strained and they often squabbled. It appears the woman took the extreme step after she had had enough. A police official said that the incident in question was reported around 10.30 pm when the woman, identified as Rajni (24), and her five-month-old daughter Trisha did not come out of their room on the first floor of their two-storey house for dinner. Rajni’s husband Rinku runs a paan shop in the area and was not present at home during the time of the incident. His parents, who were at home, started searching for their grand daughter and when they could not find her, they went to the first floor of the residence and found the mother and daughter hanging from a ceiling fan with the same rope. Police was informed who rushed to the spot and took the mother-daughter duo to a nearby hospital. They were declared dead on arrival. No suicide note was recovered from the spot. Rajni was last seen alive around 3 pm. Police officials are questioning family members to ascertain if there were any issues between the families. Since the marriage was less than seven years old, a sub-divisional magisterial probe has been ordered into the incident. Prima facie it appears the woman was having conjugal issues and was unhappy. They often would fight over trivial issues. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem to ascertain the cause of death.
