A 47-year-old woman died while her daughter was critically injured when a three-storey building collapsed in Azad Market in North Delhi on Friday. A fire official said they received a call about the incident at their control room around 4.15 pm and six fire tenders were rushed to the spot.

Deputy Commissioner of Police, north district, Madhur Verma said, “The deceased, Vimla was declared brought dead while her daughter, Komal, 23, has been admitted to Hindu Rao Hospital”

Talking about the building, Verma said it was a 100-year-old building located at Azad Market in North district where two families were residing. There were three residential flats in the building, Verma added.

“Out of two families, one family had gone to their hometown in Bihar for Chhath Puja celebration while the other family was present in the house. Vimla along with her daughter Komal stayed in one of the flats” DCP said.

The rescue operation by the teams of Delhi fire service and Delhi Disaster Management Authority is on. It is feared that some more persons could be trapped under debris.

The deplorable condition might be the reason behind it collapsed, Verma said. Further investigations are on.
