A 30-year- old woman was arrested at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) when she tried travelling to Saudi Arabia to work as a nurse using a forged employment offer letter. Police said they are investigating whether the woman was travelling to the Gulf country for any suspicious activity.

According to a senior police official, the accused has been identified as Paulose lincymol, a resident of Ayanavaram in Chennai. “We have registered a case under section 420(cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property), 468(forgery for purpose of cheating) and 471 (Using as genuine a forged document or electronic record) at the IGIA airport,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police, IGIA, Sanjay Bhatia.

She presented the job offer letter dated February 27, 2015 to the immigration along with the passport and employment visa.

“On scrutiny of her travel documents it was found that she was going to the Gulf country for employment as a nurse. On suspicion the accused was asked questions about her employer and nature of job and why the offer letter was of early last year. Unable to answer, she confessed that she was carrying a forged employment letter. Thus she cheated the Indian immigration by presenting a forged job offer letter to avoid Protector Of Emigrants clearance, which is a mandatory requirement for nursing employment in gulf countries,” said an immigration official.

The Central Industrial security force was immediately informed and the accused was taken to the IGIA airport for further questioning.

The passport, boarding pass and forged offer letter of the accused was seized from the accused and a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code was registered.
