An African national is on the run after a case of rape was registered against him at Mehrauli police station in South Delhi on the complaint of a woman from Jharkhand. The 43-year-old woman has alleged in her complaint that the accused raped her on several occasions on the pretext of marrying her. He even filmed the entire act, said police.
It has been revealed that the woman met the African national on a social networking site some six months ago and they started seeing each other. The woman has been residing in Delhi for the last few years and was employed as caretaker in some houses in Mehrauli area, said police.
The victim reportedly told police that they two exchanged cellphone numbers and began talking to each other frequently. The man succeeded in convincing the woman and they shifted to rented accommodation in Mehrauli. She accused him of raping her at different rented flats in Mehrauli in the past six months.
The suspect recently moved to an unknown destination and severed all his contacts with the woman as she had been pressurising him to marry her, a police official said.
Police have launched a manhunt to nab the foreigner but the probe has been hampered as the complainant has not provided much detail about the nationality and the real name of the accused. The foreigner has been living in India for quite some time but he never shared many details with the woman, said the officer, adding that he hid information about the purpose of his stay in India.
