A Wolf snake extricated from the premises of NP Girls’ Sr Secondary School in Gole market by Wildlife SOS team.

“It turned out to be quite a shocking day for students and staff at NP Girls Sr. Sec. School as they found an unexpected visitor in their midst. Two-members from the organisation’s Rapid Response Unit arrived at the location with necessary rescue equipment,” said a wildlife SoS official. “The team carefully extricated the snake and transferred it into a snake bag for safer transportation.

The snakewas found to be healthy and was released back into its natural habitat,” a member of rescue team said further.

Wasim Akram, Deputy Director-Special Projects, Wildlife SOS said, “We are extremely grateful to the school a staff for reaching out to Wildlife SOS.

Such early intimation helps in evading any unfortunate occurrences. Wolf snakes often seek refuge in narrow cracks or under heavy objects during daytime.

They are sometimes misunderstood for venomous Common Kraits and are therefore met with hostility on being sighted. During such rescues, it is important to not alarm the snake and extricate with utter caution.”

The common wolf snake (Lycodonaulicus) is a non-venomous snake species found in South Asia and Southeast Asia.

They are a highly adaptivespecies and are commonly found in urban environments and feed primarily on geckos, rodents and skinks.

Wolf snakes are generally shy but alert and may turn aggressive on being handled.
