If all goes as planned then Connaught Place’s Central Park is set to be transformed into a world-class tourist attraction of the national Capital. The park is set to get a dancing musical fountain, which would also act as a water screen for 3D laser shows. Besides, sculptures would be installed and the existing amphitheatre will not only be beautified with all-season floral landscaping but will also be made more secure with disaster management arrangements.
The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has taken up this ambitious project for which it recently floated expression of interest (EOI). After installing the iconic national flag, which has now turned into a popular tourist hotspot, the civic agency now is planning to upgrade the entire park.
“We want to beautify the entire park where the main attraction will be a dancing and musical fountain of international standard. It will also have a laser show with three-dimensional images for creating an aesthetic design. This will be done by employing effects of timed soundwaves and timed lights (including laser) involving programmed computerised control systems,” said Jalaj
Shrivastava, chairperson, NDMC. The amphitheatre in the Central Park will have high-end plantations and grandeur landscaping attraction. “Keeping in view the heavy footfall, the green will be developed with advanced technology. landscaping of the park shall be done using graffiti, modern art, sculptures, stones and pebbles and with all-time soothing music being played in the background. Electronic informatory boards are also included in scope,” informed a senior official.
Besides, the scope of the project also states that the whole park shall also be equipped with high-tech security along with arrangements for disaster management to cope up with any untoward incident. “Rajiv Chowk Metro station functions under the Central Park. Complying with the safety norms, we have to go ahead with the project extremely carefully using latest technology. The plan has to be executed keeping in mind without overloading the surface,” observed the official.
The council has also proposed to restrict the entry of general public to the area surrounding the national flag. “Instead of letting people come near the flag, the area shall be developed with all-season colourful plantations to enhance the splendid glory of the monumental flag,” he said.
The Central Park is located at centre of Connaught Place and is one of the most important aspects of Connaught Place. Overall area of the park is approx. 39,000 square metre out of which 27,000 square metre is green area. One of world’s most expensive commercial hub, CP has a daily average floating population of around 5 lakh.
