Eying the Municipal polls, East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) on Tuesday proposed a number of developmental schemes ranging from amnesty scheme to defaulters of property tax to regularisation of illegal constructions in villages. The corporation has also earmarked `5 crore for Chhath festival preparations, a move to woo a sizeable number of Purvanchali votes.
Sanjay Jain, leader of House to EDMC in his budget speech said that despite being short of funds, the corporation is committed to ensure overall development.
Jain claimed that the corporation has used limited resources in the best possible means to provide uninterrupted civic services. He further alleged that `5,000 crore is pending on Delhi Government that delayed developmental projects.
Jain further said “Residential properties up to 41.81 square metres are being exempted from property tax as these properties mostly belong to poor. Property tax defaulters would be given 100 per cent exemption from the penalty if they pay their due before February 28. Property tax payer of age between 60 and 70 would also be given 25 per cent rebate on one residential property on their name, while those above 70 years would get 100 per cent exemption from property tax.
“CCTV cameras would be installed in EDMC primary schools. This facility would be made available in 15 schools this year with provision of `1 crore. Besides CCTV cameras would also be installed in localities after consulting Resident Welfare Resident (RWA) in each ward to ensure security.
As per the provision of Master Plan 2021, illegal constructions upto February 8, 2007 and upto June 1, 2014 in rural area would be regularised by taking compounding fees as per the building bye-laws, he added.
