With the arrest of two persons, the Delhi Police on Wednesday claimed to have busted an inter-State drug cartel active in Delhi and its peripherals.

Police said they have also recovered 19 kilogram of cannabis (ganja) from the possession of the duo.

The accused have been identified as Sonu Kumar (20) and Suresh Kumar (22), both residents of Delhi’s Baprola area. According to Anto Alphonse, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Dwarka district, after receiving specific inputs regarding the duo, a trap was laid and they were arrested from Najafgarh area on December 2.

“During interrogation, the accused revealed that Sonu is son of Bijay Rai who is the kingpin of the group. Bijay Kumar hails from Patna in Bihar and has settled down in Delhi for past a few years.

He is indulged in supplying illegal ganja to peddlers in Western Delhi area for quite some time,” said the DCP.

“While Bijay controls the entire chain involved in delivery, receipt and supply of illegal ganja, his son Sonu handles the supply of Gaanja to small peddlers.

They have roped in carriers for these tasks. BijayRai is presently in Bihar and his son Sonu had received the consignment of ganja sent by him in train through a carrier on December 2,” said the DCP.

“Sonu and Suresh were transporting the consignment on scooty to a secret storehouse in Nangli Sakrawati Extension when they were nabbed by the police team. Sonu also revealed that he leads a lavish life style and nurtures ambitions of fighting elections,” said the DCP.

“A case under section 20 of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substance (NDPS) Act has been registered at Najafgarh police station. Police have also seized the scooty, used in commission of crime and 19 kg of ganja recovered from the accused possession,” the DCP added.
