The enthusiasm of thousands won over the morning winter chill on Sunday which was the coldest Republic Day in the last 10 years. The minimum temperature in the national Capital was recorded a notch above normal at 9.9°C.
The overcast conditions, however, gave way to bright sunshine enabling thousands of spectators to have a clear view of the spectacular flypast by the Indian Air Force. Even as overcast conditions, moderate fog and a chilly wind ensured a cold morning in the national Capital, it did not deter enthusiasts, including women and children, who thronged the side lawns of Rajpath to witness the stunning show of India’s military might and cultural diversity. People had come from faraway places and even from other States for the event. A number of foreign tourists were also seen among the spectators.
However, the chill was not as intense as it had been on Saturday, as the maximum temperature was recorded at a comfortable 20.3°C as bright sunshine eventually gave some respite from the morning’s overcast conditions. While the maximum temperature was about six degrees above Saturday’s 14.4°C, there was not much of a change in the minimum which was recorded at 9.9°C compared to 9.4°C on Saturday night. Humidity oscillated between 69 per cent and 100 per cent.
The weathermen have predicted a mainly clear sky on Monday which could turn cloudy during the course of the day with moderate but dense fog in the morning. The maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to be 21°C and 9°C respectively.
