Attacking the Government, on the eve of resumption of Budget Session, BJP president Rajnath Singh on Sunday said it will lodge a strong protest in the Parliament against attempt to malign former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee in 2G spectrum issue and on coal block allocation probe. that
the Congress-led UPA Government was levelling allegation against Vajpayee, who has had a clean image throughput his political career, in a bid to save its face and fool the people. “I want to tell my friends in Congress that we can tolerate anything but any attempt to malign his (Vajpayee’s) name will not be acceptable and BJP will give a befitting reply. We won’t keep quite. They should not think that such allegations are part of politics,” Singh said, adding, the party will protest democratically against the Government. He was speaking at a Janakrosh Rally at Dwarka Sector-14 on Sunday.
He said the Joint Parliamentary Committee, which was formed to probe the 2G spectrum allocation scam; in its draft report has exonerated Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Finance Minister P Chidambaram. “If they would have done only this, we would not have had much objections but we were pained when they raised a finger towards our former Prime Minister Vajpayee, who is not keeping well for past four years, saying there was a loss of `48,000 crore during his regime,” Singh said, adding the committee also tried to include the names of senior BJP leaders Jaswant Singh and Arun Shourie, who have a ‘very clean image’, in its
draft report.
In wake of the ongoing protest against the rape of the five-year old girl in Delhi, the BJP president also slammed the Government for failing to ensure safety of women. He said a constant fear of violence has gripped the head and heart of women in the Capital and the city police and Government has failed miserably in curbing crime against them. “The Government has failed to ensure protection of the women and children. It’s a matter of shame that the sexual crime against women continue unabated in the national Capital despite having two women — Sonia Gandhi and Sheila Dikshit at the helm of affairs,” Singh said.
“Women in the national Capital feel unsafe in moving out from their homes. It is the duty of the government to give protection to every citizen especially women and children. Because of the increasing number of such case, Delhi is being called the ‘Rape Capital’. Even the minor girls are not safe in their homes,” he added.
Delhi BJP president Vijay Goel too criticised Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit for failing to improve law and order situation in the Capital. “Delhi has become home of rapists during the Sheila Dikshit regime for the last 14 years. The cases of rapes are being reported from all parts of the city. We feel ashamed on hearing such news. Dikshit is only trying to hide her failure by putting the blame on Delhi Police,” Goel said.
“Why is Dikshit escaping from taking charge of security and Delhi PoliceIJ How many times has she written to the Home Minister to hand over the command of Delhi police to the Delhi Government. By saying that even her daughter does not safe in Delhi, she can not run away from her responsibility. Being the Chief Minister of Delhi, she must ensure proper security of women and girls,” he said.
