Wildlife week at Delhi Zoo from Oct 1

In order to educate common people and students about animal behaviour, the Delhi Zoo will celebrate wildlife week from October 1. The wildlife week is a platform where animal lovers, bird watchers and experts will share their opinion on how to save wildlife.

“In wildlife week, the visitors will learn many new things apart from the opportunity to watch the animals in their habitats. The Delhi Zoo has many categories of animals but common people are not aware of them. During the wildlife week, visitors will have informative sessions and they can have answers to their queries related to animals,” said Riyaz Ahmad Khan, Education Curator, Delhi Zoo.

Interestingly, with the arrival of migratory birds, Delhi Zoo is becoming the hub for researchers. Students from various education institutes visit Delhi Zoo to study these birds.

“Researchers from Wildlife Institute of India (WII), Delhi University (DU) and Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) have registered themselves with a purpose to do research on birds and animals,” Khan added.

The wildlife supporters and photographers in Delhi believe that sharing the same land and environment, the humans can learn many things from these animals. Piyush Sharma, a wildlife photographer said that animals teach us to love unconditionally, work together and live in the present moment. “While capturing the moments of animals, it has been observed that animals support each other. We humans should learn from animals about how to love unconditionally,” said Sharma.

Wildlife enthusiasts at the Delhi Zoo also said this wildlife week will be an orientation programme for the visitors on human activities in wildlife parks and bird sanctuaries.

“Despite the fact that the administration and Government have created special zones for birds and animals, but visitors are not aware of the rules and regulations of wildlife and zoo zone areas,” said Sameer, a student.

“The expert suggestions in wildlife week will surely help to educate the visitors about the norms of sanctuaries and wildlife areas,” he said.

In wildlife week, students from schools to university level will participate in clay modeling, painting competition, debate, wildlife quiz and in amateur photography competition.
