Why juveniles are sharp as a tack?

Published on:

The increasing crime rates committed by juveniles are not the only matter of concern. Tracing back as to what facilitates them in committing such crimes, officials have found that despite being in the closely-guarded observation homes they often surreptitiously collect sharp-edged objects through different means. While some steal spoons during their meals and sharpen them, others pocket surgical blades during their routine checkup from hospitals.

Delhi Police officials who have been conducting enquiries about the criminal activities of the juveniles have found that these juveniles are adept in using sharp-edged blades. They have adopted innovative modus operandi to conceal blades in their nostrils, mouth and undergarments. It appears there are some gangs in the slum clusters of Delhi who impart training to these juveniles. Such tricks to hide blades in the body are normally taught by pickpocket gangs.

Juvenile gangs are the new challenge for the Delhi Police as their modus operandi and identity are not known to the investigators. The ugly incident that unfolded in Sewa Kutir on Tuesday is the manifestation of this tendency among the juveniles who are getting more spoiled than being corrected in these homes, an officer said.

Besides, police officers say that criminals have now started roping in juveniles for criminal activities as they know that even if they are caught, they will get away with lesser punishment. There are many juveniles who keep Delhi Police on tenterhooks by their innovative methods of committing crime. There was one notorious ‘Fire Gang’ that had let loose a reign of terror in South Delhi areas. The gang used to set the house on fire after committing burglaries. It took sustained investigations by the South district before the gang leader and the other members of this gang were nabbed.
