Vijay often told me how dangerous this Bhupender Dariyapur was. Bhupender was well aware that his life was at risk. If there was so much threat, why did he leave his house so late in the night. Why did the two PSOs guarding him not have bulletproof jacketsIJ” questioned the wife of Delhi Police ASI Vijay Singh, who was martyred in the indiscriminate firing by armed gangsters aimed to eliminate Bhupender.
Waiting under the shade of a tree since 2 am on Sunday night outside the mortuary of the Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital in Mangolpuri, Sunil, wife of the deceased ASI, was surrounded by a couple of relatives and her two grown up sons.
“All I want is to at least see my husband’s face. I have been waiting for more than ten hours but no one from the hospital came to meet us. No senior officer from the police department came to me or my children,” she added.
“My husband, was posted as an ASI with the Mianwali Police Station. For the past two and a half months, my husband was serving as the Personal Security Officer to Bhupender.
“The first call I got was around 12.30 am saying that my husband had been injured in an accident in the Mianwali Nagar area. I was asked to come to the hospital. It was from others that I heard that my husband sustained seven bullet injuries near his eyes and chest,” she wailed.
Father of two son, Ravi, a 24-year-old teacher and Chandresh, a class 12 student, the ASI lived with his family in Kailash Puri area of Palam.
“He has been serving in the police department for so long. I asked him to change but he did not. For him, his duty was more important. Although the PSO is given a pistol, they are not allowed to open fire.
“My only question is why was a PCR van not around the car which Bhupender was driving. If timely help in the form of PCR van had come my husband and the other PSO could have fought with those armed men,” she said.
“Apart from that pistol, why is the PSOs not provided any bulletproof jacketIJ” questioned the grieving wife.
Defending that proper measures were in place in providing security to the deceased gangster, the area DCP MN Tiwari clarified, “The PSOs were given sufficient arms. However, everything happened so suddenly, the two PSOs — ASI Vijay Singh and Constable Kuldeep — did not get a chance to react.”
