The North district police are trying to identify the persons involved in issuing the fake character certificate to the accused cab driver Shiv Kumar Yadav. The police while investigating this will also understand the mechanism wherein such certificates are issued and by whom. Senior police officials revealed that they will take strong action against anyone even if a police official or any individual from the Transport Department as well.
An agent of a finance company, identified as Sumit, has been detained by police who had allegedly helped Shiv Kumar Yadav, the accused in the Uber rape case, to procure the fake character certificate which he had submitted to RTO to get an All India Tourist Permit. The 32-year-old cab driver had told police during interrogation that he had procured the fake character certificate issued in the name of an Additional DCP of Delhi Police from the agent of the finance company agent.
“We have detained the agent who was named by Yadav. During questioning, the agent told us that he had procured it from another person who is still to be identified. We will make arrests only when we unearth the entire chain through which the fake certificate was obtained,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Madhur Verma.
The investigations so far have revealed that Yadav had bought the Swift Dzire car, in which the crime took place after taking a loan from the finance company. The finance company provides an individual car loan on the basis that he has an All India Tourist Permit so that he can pay back the loan by plying his car. Police believe that the agent must have helped him get the certificate so that he can get the loan. His part of the money was provided by his father and a friend.
Police will also look into whether there was any connivance of any Regional Transport Office (RTO) officials in this connection as well. Police have procured the file from Transport Department used for obtaining the permit. Once the case is cracked, Delhi Police will launch a major drive against touts and agents helping people to procure documents through unfair means. Yadav told police that he had got the forged document just for a few hundred rupees. It was produced just with the help of a photocopy machine by placing one-half of a paper over the other.
