The Tis Hazari court premises are vulnerable to petty crimes, especially in the evenings. The cases of theft, scuffle and fights are common in the court premises as entry to the campus is free, even during late evening hours.
Some lawyers told The Pioneer that the clients keep coming till late in the evening to meet the lawyers and discuss their cases due to which several eatery shops remain open. After the murder of a lawyer inside the court premises, the court’s Bar Association has now planned to beef up security and planned to take some measures in this direction. A month ago, a member of the Delhi Bar Association was beaten up by goons inside the court premises over a petty issue. The lawyers said that the goons were joined by the employees of Chaudhary Ka Dhaba as they had some old grudge against the victim. But the case was later sorted out. The three men, including a
caretaker of the same dhaba, were arrested for murdering an advocate on Friday. “An advocate’s murder has raised serious questions on the security apparatus in and around the court premises. We will take some measures in this direction so that no one can enter and remain in the court premises without a specific purpose,” Joint Secretary of Delhi Bar Association Atul Kumar Sharma told The Pioneer.
Sources said that several cases of thefts were also reported a few months back. Following this, the police had increased patrolling inside the premises. Some lawyers claimed that some youths from a JJ cluster, which is located next to the court campus, used to loiter on campus.
