West & South-West to have no supply for next 2 days

Published on:

The entire West Delhi and South West Delhi will be without water supply for next couple of days even as the water flow has started from the Delhi Sub Branch Canals, which runs parallel to the Munak Canal, with partial water supply having low capacity of 150 cusec (60 MGD) against 350 cusec water. The pressure of water is expected to be slow.

DJB officials said, “Even though water supply from the Bawana, Dwarka, Narela, Haiderpur and Nagloi Water Treatment Plants (WTP) is likely to be started from Wednesday morning, however, West Delhi area will remain hit for a few

more days. Since the water supply is less and demand is more, the West Delhi area will be affected.”

The water from Delhi Sub Branch Canal has been diverted to various Water Treatment Plants through old Munak canal or kachi Munak canal.

An official said the Haiderpur WTP is the biggest one which has a capacity of 220 MGD; around 30 to 60 MGD of water will be released.

The Nagloi WTP having a capacity of 40 MGD is likely to get about 30 MGD water whereas as Bawana WTP will receive 10 MGD water against a capacity of 20MGD. The Dwarka WTP which has a capacity of 50 MGD is likely to get 6 to 7 MGD water only.

Also, the official said that the gates of Delhi Sub Branch Canals were closed by the agitated Jat protesters.

“Now as the gates have opened the water is likely to reach Bawana, Dwarka, Haiderpur and Nagloi water treatment plants with less capacity, as a result

there will be low pressure in running tap water.”
