The BJP and Congress party on Tuesday criticised the AAP-led Delhi Government saying the announcement of subsidised water to the consumers was a prank on them. Former Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said the steps taken by AAP Government present a ‘confusing picture’ and only time will tell how he fulfils his promises. “It is very difficult to comment at this time about what his plan of action will be. His moves are forming a confusing picture,” she said. Senior Congress leader Mukesh Sharma said no elected Government in the history had played such a mischief on the people through manipulated statistics.
He said that the AAP party had clearly promised in its election manifesto before the Delhi Assembly elections that it would provide 700 litres of free potable water to all the households when elected to power. He, on behalf of the Congress Party, warned the Government that the Congress Party was giving it two months’ time to provide 700 litres of potable water to ever household to fulfil its election promise.
Similarly, Delhi BJP president Vijay Goel said that the AAP government in Delhi has given an ‘unwelcome gift’ in the new year of 10 percent hike in water tariff for majority of consumers.
“More than 8 lakh households will be affected this hike as they will be forced to bear additional monthly burden of Rs 500-Rs 700 by this
decision,”
Goel said and demanded that it should be rolled back immediately. He said that the BJP leaders who are members of the Delhi Jal Board had registered a note of dissent on the proposed hike in water tariff but their dissent was brushed aside and the AAP Government decided to go ahead with water tariff hike.
