In an effort to make the Capital safer for women, Delhi’s lt Governor Najeeb Jung on Thursday directed the Deputy Commissioners to conduct a safety audit to identify safe and unsafe areas for women in their districts. The second edition of Delhi Human Development Report also pointed out that public safety, substandard health facilities and disparities among various groups remain some of the major issues facing Delhi in its quest to become a global city.  The report expressed concern over high crime rate in Delhi and said the rate of abduction of children in the city increased significantly from 4.5 per one lakh population in 2004-06 to 18.3 per one lakh population in 2012. The report analyses issues from two perspectives: first, the facts on the ground; and second, people’s perceptions regarding the same.
