A 24-year-old wanted criminal and key member of the dreaded Neeraj Bawana gang — who was allegedly responsible for opening fire on Delhi Police personnel in Haryana — has been arrested by the Crime Branch of Delhi.
The accused, identified as Deepak, alias Deepa, was arrested on Wednesday following a tip off from Bawana Kanjhawala Road near Chor Piau around 6:30pm. The police team had laid a trap and intercepted his car. “We got the first tip at 7.30 pm on Monday regarding the movement of a close aide of Neeraj Bawana — who was wanted in a case of firing on the officers of Special Cell of Delhi Police in Karnal (Haryana) and a case of conspiracy to commit murder of a member of rival gang. We further worked on the information and the accused was finally nabbed on Tuesday,” said Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Ravindra Yadav.
Deepak was involved in two incidents for which the Delhi Police was hot on his heels. Bawana gang had hatched a plan to eliminate one Pradeep, alias Bhola, a member of their rival Neetu Dabodia gang. Their plan was to kill Pradeep in Rohini Court when he was being produced there, as he had been heading the gang after death of Neetu Dabodia in a police encounter. They wanted to eliminate him to establish their supremacy on the outskirts of Delhi.
“Their plan was to manage a safe entry in the court complex in advocates’ attire and kill Pradeep. However, the attempt was foiled by the sleuths of Special Cell, Delhi Police. The Delhi Police had been searching for Deepak ever since his name emerged as one of the key conspirators during the investigation. As such, he went underground to evade arrest. “On September 19, he was intercepted by the Special Cell officers while he was passing through Karnal. However, he opened fire at the police team and managed to escape,” added Yadav.
