Disappointment with the Aam Aadmi Party’s internal fights seems to have hit even the party’s ardent supporters. Kundan Sharma, a UK-based software engineer and supporter of AAP, who had donated a blue WagonR to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, now wants it back. The NRI, who was once impressed by the party’s action and went forward to donate his car, bike and lakhs, is reportedly upset with the rift within AAP.
Disillusioned with the party, Sharma took to social media (Twitter) demanding that his now iconic blue WagonR and donations be returned to him. “#IDemandMyDonation BackFromAAP: My blue WagonR, my bike and lakhs of rupees that I donated to AAP,” Sharma tweeted. He said he didn’t use the vehicle much and that it was registered in his wife’s name. “I was hesitant to donate the vehicle first. But changed my mind when AAP was protesting demanding justice for the 23-year old woman who died after being gangraped in a moving bus in Delhi on December 16, 2012,” he said.
He further tweeted, “”I did not want only Arvind or Prashant, but the duo to run AAP. But, when I was asked to choose one, I lost faith in the politics,” Sharma tweeted adding, “Bigger dream of clean politics was sacrificed for winning Delhi. No one will dare to clean politics for the next three decades. I was a die-hard fan of Arvind Kejriwal when I saw AAP from 10,000 ft and lost hope when I saw it from 10 ft. All that glitters is not gold.”
Sharma said he had contacted AAP leader Dilip Pandey to finalise the donation process and then Kejriwal had spoken to him personally on January 1, 2013. Two days later, a driver from the AAP came and picked the car. The AAP convener had also acknowledged the donation on a party’s letterhead, Sharma said.
Kejriwal, during his first stint as Delhi’s CM for 49 days, had used the Maruti WagonR frequently and even refused to take a Government car. He later gifted the car to AAP’s Rohtak candidate Navin Jaihind last year for campaigning hard for AAP ahead of the lok Sabha polls. Kejriwal, who became the Chief Minister of Delhi for the second time on Feb 14, a year after he quit office, now, drives a Toyota Innova.
