Vital to enlist recently-added urban areas as development areas: Gupta

Published on:

A day after the declaration of 89 rural villages as urban areas under land pooling policy, leader of Opposition (loP) in Delhi Assembly, Vijendra Gupta, has said that the next step in this direction is to declare these villages and their  agricultural land as development area. "It is essential, so that the entire process reaches its logical conclusion and the way is set for expeditious development," said Gupta.

He further said that it would be futile to expect any cooperation from the Delhi Government in this matter as the policy itself continued to hang in air with it for the last two years. "Therefore, it will be in public interest if lieutenant-Governor Baijal takes it upon himself to issue further notification with regard to declaration of development area," said the BJP leader.

Emphasising on the land falling outside lal Dora, he said that l-G must declare it as development area. "It will automatically make the entire land non agricultural and pave the way for further development since the land has declared as urban area," he added.

He further added that implementation of  the policy will result in availability of one lakh houses for general category and 50,000 houses for Economically Weaker Section (EWS) category per 1,000 hectares.

It is projected that within five years about 10 lakh houses will be available for people in the general category and about 5 lakh in EWS categories.    Gupta also urged Delhi to direct revenue officials of the Delhi Government to expedite the process of authentication of the 89 villages so that development works takes off without any hurdle.

"DDA should start single window service so that people donot have to run from pillar to post for getting approvals," said Gupta.
