Virtual ‘Dilli ki Diwali’ to encourage Delhiites for firecracker-free festival

Delhi Tourism in association with the Delhi Government is organising a virtual edition of Dilli ki Diwali, a community Diwali Celebration on November 14 to encourage people to celebrate a safe and cracker less Diwali.

Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia lauded the occasion and said, “We rarely leave any stone unturned when it comes to serving the people of Delhi as we want to provide them the best. ‘Dilli ki Diwali’ was conceptualised to engage the community and create a landmark event that can initiate a change of habit. Given the current scenario, we wish to keep the sentiment of being part of a community, and the festival alive, without putting anyone’s health in danger.”

With an aim to prevent the air quality from deteriorating further during Diwali, and to prioritise a safe festival with a sense of togetherness, Dilli ki Diwali is being celebrated with a grand Puja that will be conducted by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Deputy Chief Minister, Manish Sisodia at Akshardham Temple. This puja will be telecast live across 26 channels from 7:35pm to 8:05 pm.

Over two crore people, residing in Delhi from various parts of the nation will get to be a part of this grand Diwali celebration, witnessing the soothing and spiritual incantations of Vedic Mantras that will be performed by the learned Pandits of Jhandewalan. People will be able to perform their own puja alongside the live telecast; strengthening the spirit of the community and establishing an optimistic outlook in these difficult and dark times. In a way, it will be a collective prayer for good health and wellbeing for all.

The live telecast that will be aired across different channels is for people to experience and participate virtually in the Diwali Puja set in the grand and pristine Akshardham Temple from the safety of their homes. They, too, can perform the rituals of the puja with their families, and friends in their homes, and neighbourhoods.

Keeping the twin purpose of the celebration in mind, ‘Dilli ki Diwali’ will allow Delhiites to enjoy the festival without adversely affecting the air quality index, and in turn their own health.
