In an attempt to reach out to the petrified residents of Khera Kalan village in Outer Delhi, Vijender Gupta, leader of Opposition, Delhi Assembly made an unscheduled visit to the village on Sunday. Villagers live in perpetual fear as the walls of their houses have cracks and could be seen from a distance. Gupta said he was determined to raise the issue in the in the next session of Delhi Assembly.

The residents showed him the condition of the houses with one/two inch wide gap in the walls, visible from a distance of a couple of metres. Due to these gaps, some of the houses have already collapsed while others are on the verge of collapse as the ongoing monsoon season has ruined their dilapidated houses.

“The residents are, in a way living under the fear of death and loss of property, Gupta said.

Gupta, after seeing the condition of the houses said, “Delhi Government should provide alternate houses, employment and compensation, immediately as rain may further create  havoc in the village.”

“Deputy Chief Minister, Delhi Government, Manish Sisodia, visited the village six months ago and assured the residents that they would be provided with necessary

aid but nothing has been done so far,” he added.

Majority of the residents of the village are small land owning and agriculture is their  main source of income. Therefore, the Government should provide them with the required incentives and support, the lOP said.

North Delhi Municpal Councillors namely Nisha Mann, Anju Dabas, Savita Khatri, Neel Daman Khatri, President Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Narela District and Anjali Rana, vice president, BJP Mahila Morcha also accompanied Vijendra Gupta on the visit.
