The house of Vice Admiral Michael Moraes in the highly secured New Delhi district was burgled by criminals days after Congress MP Shashi Tharoor’s house in lodhi Road area was burgled. Vice-Admiral Moraes resides in his official bungalow at Rajesh Pilot Marg.
A complaint in this regard has been lodged by vice admiral’s son who said that all the jewellery from the house along with cash was stolen. All the cupboards were broken and clothes were seen thrown here and there as well.
The incident took place on the intervening night of December 10 and 11. Vice Admiral Michael Moraes and his wife were out of station. Their son Joshua Moaraes was staying in the house . Joshua left to stay at a friend’s place on December 10 night around 7.30 pm.
“Around 8.00 am next morning I was called by our maid who told me that our house was broken into and probably ransacked. When I came back to my house, I saw that the main entry door of our house was attempted to be broken but the thieves did not succeed in doing so. A window was broken and the thieves might have entered through there,” alleged Moraes.
When Moraes went further inside his house to inspect he found that all the cupboards in the two storey house were broken open and clothes were strewn all over the place.
“The cupboard in the upstairs bedroom was also opened and jewellery and cash were found missing. The amount of cash a jewellery that is missing is only known to my parents and they will intimate the police after their return,” added Moraes.
Police has registered a case under Section 457(lurking house-trespass or house breaking by night in order to commit offence punishable with imprisonment) and 380 (Theft in dwelling house etc) of the Indian Penal Code at Tughlaq Road police station and are investigating. A police official said that Naval Guards were posted in the house of the Vice Admiral. It remains to be seen why they failed to detect the entry of burglars.
Congress MP Shashi Tharoor’s house, which is in the vicinity the house of Vice Admiral Michael Moraes, was burgled on November 28 this year. The case is yet to be cracked though the FIR has been transferred to Crime Branch.
