The Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) is set to pronounce its verdict on the minor accused in December 16 gang-rape incident on Thursday. The accused, according to police, was the most brutal, in the rape and murder of the 23-year-old paramedical student.

The JJB began the enquiry in March and reserved its order on July 5. The board, presided by Principal Magistrate Geetanjali Goel concluded hearing the case of the teenager, who was 17 years old at the time of the incident.

The JJB also concluded its inquiry in the case against the juvenile pertaining to robbing Ramadhar, a carpenter, who had also encountered the accused persons on the evening December 16.

During the inquiry, the JJB recorded the statements of six prosecution witnesses, including the victim's male friend.

A native of Uttar Pradesh, the juvenile was one of the six accused in the case. He faced inquiry before the JJB, while the four adult accused are being tried before a fast-track court. Key accused Ram Singh was found dead in Tihar Jail in March.

This will be the first verdict in the December 16 gang-rape and murder case of the paramedic student.

During the inquiry, the juvenile had denied all charges against him, claiming that he was not a participant in the horrendous crime.

The defence counsel had claimed that the juvenile had been implicated by the police though neither the victim nor her male friend had done so in their initial statements.

He had also said that the victim's male friend, who is the complainant in the case, did not depose against him even before the JJB.
