All crimes under the heinous category, witnessed a sharp dip of 50 percent in 2018, as compared to the corresponding periodQ,” stated the Police Commissioner.
“Apart from the decrease in heinous crimes, we were also able to improve our crime detection rates. In 2018, we have disposed of 30,893complaints out of 33,113 total registered. Likewise, as compared to 2017, when 117 murder cases came to light, the number was 77 in 2018 that was a decrease of 38 percent. Also, cases of rape dipped by 15 percent. “The response time of the police control room (PCR) is constantly observed by an ACP rank officer. From the last month, video recording of the PCR staff is being done. With these efforts we are just checking the response time of the PCR to reaching the crime spot,” the Commissioner said.
The police commissioner said that the traffic situation remained an area ofconcern. “It was more due to the increase in a number ofvehicles and the “lack of timely expansion” of the road network. Thetop cop said increasing the use of technology and police presence on the roads had helped in speeding up a movement of vehicles”, he added. Rao said over Rs 23 crore was recovered from more than 13 lakh vehicles for violating traffic rules in 2018.
Meanwhile, the city police have decided to attach properties belonging to hundreds of suspects who have been declared proclaimed absconders. This list includes dreaded criminals and some other key people who are on the run for quite a while and are opting for unethical ways to evade arrest.
Rao said 782 absconding criminals have been declared Proclaimed Offenders (POs) in the district. “The police will approach the courts under Section 83 of CrPc to attach properties belonging to people who have been POs for a long time,” Rao said.
