As soon as trends indicating the victory of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Dr Harsh Vardhan emerged in the Chandni Chowk constituency, he revealed his plans for the redevelopment of the area.
Vardhan said on Friday that his focus will be on improving the traffic and infrastructure of Chandni Chowk while paying special attention to sanitation. The BJP candidate bagged himself a seat in the Parliament after defeating Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate and former journalist Ashutosh by a margin of 1,36,320votes in the Chandni Chowk constituency.
Buoyed by BJP’s spectacular show in the lok Sabha polls, Vardhan also said the party was ready for Assembly elections and insisted that it would not resort to any kind of “manipulation” to form Government in the city. “BJP is prepared for a repoll and we are confident of our victory. I will be the last man in this world to resort to any kind of manipulation,” Vardhan said after he emerged victorious in the prestigious Chandni Chowk constituency, defeating his nearest rival Ashutosh of AAP.
Born and brought up in Chandni Chowk, Vardhan said that he has witnessed problems in the area at very close quarters. “I know the intricate problems of this area and they have never been addressed before. Basic redevelopment plans have been hanging on a loose string since very long and in spite of formulation, action has been missing. Thus, I intend to first put into action the existing redevelopment plans and then formulate new ones to facilitate the area better,” he informed.
Vardhan’s agenda also includes decongestion. According to him, the persisting traffic problem in the area can be solved with effective application “which the Congress never sought after.” He said that in the past 10 years, Sibal had barely even visited the area thus not realising the needs of the residents.
