With incidents of vision distraction caused by laser beams being reported by the pilots while landing aircraft at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) IGI Airport, has banned use of laser beam lights in and around the jurisdiction of airport for two months.
Pilots have been encountering distractions while landing as farmhouses, clubs in the vicinity of the IGI often use laser shows during marriages and functions. Since IGI is a high flight density airport, many a times pilots were confused and it took them time to identify the landing directions coming from the ATC since laser beams being flashed from the adjoining areas were interfering in their vision.

Also, there are no rules and regulations to use such laser beams in the open during the night hours, So, we circulated the orders to all the concerned authorities to take immediate actions for prohibiting the laser beam lights”, DCP Sanjay Bhatia told The Pioneer.
