Opposition BJP members on Thursday created a noisy scene in the Assembly over water crisis in their constituencies which led to adjournment of the House for 40 minutes during the Question Hour.
The issue was raised during Question Hour by BJP legislators who accused the Chief Minister of “deliberately” not providing water to various areas of West Delhi for the last 15 years due to political reasons.
Palam constituency MlA Dharam Dev Solanki alleged that the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) has diverted the water meant for people of his constituency and adjoining areas to various construction sites near the Indira Gandhi International Airport and demanded a thorough probe into the matter. “The water has been diverted for use in construction of a number of hotels and some other projects. This is a very serious issue. The Chief Minister has been depriving people of Palam and nearby areas of water due to political reasons. We condemn this,” leader of Opposition VK Malhotra said. The Congress legislators rejected the allegations.
Solanki threatened to resign from the the House and said people of his constituency have been “thirsty” for the last 15 years. “If you do not repair roads, set up schools, hospitals or other facilities in my constituency, I will not have this much problem. But please give us water. People have been facing unimaginable difficulties due to non-supply of water,” said Solanki, in an emotional appeal to Dikshit .
