Senior BJP leader and party’s candidate from Amritsar Arun Jaitley on Monday came down heavily on the Congress-led UPA Government saying its two successive tenures have proved ‘fatal’ for the country.
Emphasising on the ‘dwindling’ economy of the country, he accused Prime Minister Manmohan Singh of failing to control the downward trend in the economy and doing nothing regarding the numerous internal threats in the form of Maoist attacks.
Jaitley held the economic policies of the Government responsible for the ever-increasing price rise while he added that rampant corruption, deteriorating law and order situation had tarnished the image of India in other countries.
“The PM, being an economist himself has totally failed to improve the economy. The condition of the country has gone from bad to worse during the last ten years. Value of money has gone down while inflation is setting new records. Poor people are reeling under acute crisis to meet their daily needs. The Government, on the other hand, has no time to take care of them. Its ministers are indulged in rampant corruption which is evident from the 2G, CWG and Coal Bock scams,” said Jaitley addressing a rally in East Delhi’s Krishna Nagar Assembly constituency. In his 15-minute speech, the BJP leader lamented that the present Government lacked proper vision.
Attacking the Congress for its failure to tackle Maoism, he said, “Forget cross-border terrorism which is so rampant nowadays, the nation is pained by the numerous internal security issues in the form of Maoist attacks.” He went on to say that the countdown had begun for the Government and that the 2014 elections would usher in a new era in the history of Indian politics. “People of the country have made up their minds to vote BJP to power and make Narendra Modi the next Prime Minister of India,” he concluded.
