UP police probe NIA slain officer's murder from three angles

Published on:

Uttar Pradesh police is investigating the National Investigation Agency (NIA) officer’s murder case from three major angles, i.e. exploring local connections, personal issues and terrorist angle, said ADG law and Order Uttar Pradesh Police Daljeet Chaudhary on Tuesday.

“Since the family possesses substantial agriculture land in Sahaspur town and no one was looking after the ancestral property post his father’s death, we have ordered to screen every local issue very minutely. Other personal issues are pertaining to the officer’s involvements in important investigations being handled by him. Some vital enmity might have developed during investigation like counterfeit currency related cases. So we shall screen all such important investigations. And third angle is terror angle, which we are looking after very minutely,” said Chaudhary.

The NIA Deputy Superintendent of Police, Mohammad Tanzil Ahmad, (48) who was involved in the probe of the cases pertaining to Indian Mujahideen (IM) and the arrest of its national head Yasin Bhatkal, was shot dead on Sunday by two unidentified assailants in his native town of Sahaspur which is 66 km away from Bijnor while returning to his home town after attending the wedding of his niece in Syohara.

Tanzil used to supervise his 65 bighas agriculture land which he rented to a local villager.

His elder brother Razib Ahmad was following him in another car and reached the spot after five minutes. Both the brothers planned to stay during night in their home town where they used to visit frequently after his father died two years ago.

The officer was accompanied by his wife Farzana, daughter Zarnees (14) and son Shahbaaz (9). The children escaped unhurt who were sitting on rear seats while his wife received four bullet injuries as she was sitting on the front seat alongside the slain officer. Farzana is now struggling for life in hospital.
