Unidentified men allegedly waylaid and robbed a Delhi Police’s Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of his service pistol on Thursday midnight while he was heading home in his car after duty in South-west Delhi’s Uttam Nagar area.
Though the Delhi Police said that they have made elaborate arrangements on roads ahead of New Year, the incident happened two days before the national Capital will celebrate the New Year.
According to a senior police officer, “The incident happened around 12 am when Babulal, who is posted as an ASI in Burari circle as a traffic policeman, was heading home in his car. While crossing the Najafgarh nala, at Shiv Vihar, Babulal’s car was intercepted by a car. Two to three men came out and snatched his bag which contained his licensed pistol. The pistol was issued to him two-and-a-half months back.”
“After the incident, Babulal informed the police and a case has been registered at the Uttam Nagar police station,” said the officer.
The officer said, “Going by the version of the ASI, it appears that the accused must have done a recce of the route taken by him.”
The ASI claimed that the car of the accused was following him. However, he assumed that they are heading for Vikas Nagar. Further investigation is on.
