Unauthorised buildings demolished, 50kg polythene seized from Capital

The building department of South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) on Wednesday demolished seven unauthorised constructions in Chhattarpur Enclave, Freedom Fighter Colony and Kishangarh. However, the civic body failed to even serve notices to owners of sprawling party lawns  that host opulent weddings and social functions without taking necessary approval from the corporation.

A senior SDMC official said a separate demolition teams were constituted to take action and overcome the tendency of unauthorised constructions.  He said three properties were demolished each in B block Chhattarpur Enclave and block A Freedom Fighter Colony and one property in Kishangarh.

The civic body also seized 50 kg polythene from Sewa Nagar fruit and vegetable market under Central Zone.

Taking advantage of SDMC’s lethargic attitude, majority of these air- conditioned marriage venues which were operating in areas at Qutub Minar, MG Road, Arjangarh, Bhati mines, Chattarpur Road and GT Karnal Road have removed illegal pandals to avoid action.

On September 2, the apex court appointed Monitoring Committee conducted an inspection of the farm houses and motels falling under the jurisdiction of South and North Delhi Municipal Corporations and noticed violations like unauthoriesd construction, misuse of properties, illegal air conditions pandals, shamiyanas, sheds on their premises and holding social functions without approval of the corporation.

Following this, the committee had directed to both the corporations to seal all these within 48 hour after serving notices for defying rules. What is interesting that not even a single notice served to them by SDMC yet?

The official further said that during the last two months the department has taken 116 demolition actions and 51 sealing actions against unauthorised constructions areas at Chhattarpur Enclave, Mehrauli, Kishangarh, Said-ul-Azaib, Panchsheel Vihar, Khirki, Savitri Nagar and Gautam Nagar.  Further, the localities are being inspected regularly and unauthorized constructions carried out by unscrupulous builder are identified, he said.

According to an estimate, 12000 such illegal pandals, shamiyana and illegal weeding venues exit in the capital along with national highways, causing huge traffic jams.
