Some crucial information has come out about JNU’s February 9 anti-India event mastermind Umar Khalid. It is understood that he is son of SQR Ilyas, former president of banned terror outfit Students’ Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) formed in UP’s Aligarh in April 1977.
Police continue to conduct raids to apprehend Khalid, currently on the run.
The intelligence agencies have hinted that Khalid — a member of Demorcratic Students’ Union (DSU) and a key organiser of the Afzal Guru event on the JNU campus where anti-national slogans were raised — is reported to have links with Pakistan-based terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed.
In a four-page report, the Delhi Police claimed that DSU activists led by Khalid raised anti-national slogans after they were denied to broadcast a pro-Afzal Guru documentary on February 9 on the campus.
According to Intelligence agencies, the group wanted to hold such events in 18 universities in the country.
The Delhi Police had submitted a report on its alleged crackdown on a group of protesting JNU students on February 9 to the Ministry of Home Affairs and blamed students leader Kanhaiya Kumar and a “wanted” student Khalid for events leading to violence in the varsity campus.
The report stated, “Khalid is pursuing his PhD from the School of Social Science. He had done his Master’s in History from JNU itself. He reportedly did his MPhil from the same university and
his area of field work was Jharkhand. He is a resident of Tapti Hostel.”
