Brother of Ranbir Singh, for whose fake encounter 17 Uttarakhand police personnel were sentenced to life by a Delhi court, has claimed that few unknown persons have threatened him and his father to not pursue the case.
Ranbir’s father Ravinder Pal and brother Sandeep approached police and lodged a written complaint at Sahibabad police station.
Ravinder Pal had been representing his son’s case in the court. “I received a threat for my father Ravinder Pal on June 29 at around 11.25 am when I was at my ice-cream shop in lajpat Nagar. A car with four persons halted near my shop. Three persons got off it, came to me and asked me to make my father understand that he has grown very old and at this stage, he should not fight legal cases,” Sandeep told the media on Wednesday adding that we are aware that the 17 cops, who were awarded life term for Ranbir’s fake encounter, are moving High Court. That is why this threat was made.
“We have received a complaint about the threat. Ravinder Pal’s house and his family members have been put under round the-clock security cover. A PCR van has also been stationed outside their house,” Hardayal Yadav, Station Officer (SO) of Sahibabad police station, said.
A Delhi court awarded life imprisonment to 17 Uttarakhand police officers on June 10 for gunning down a 22-year-old MBA graduate, Ranbir, in a fake encounter in a jungle near Dehradun in 2009. Special CBI Judge JPS Malik had handed down the jail term to the 17 cops after holding them guilty.
