A Noida resident was charged almost Rs 3,000 for a roughly 45-km Uber taxi ride from Terminal 2 of the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport to his home in the township.
The nightmare for Debarshi Dasgupta began when he booked a cab from the airport to his home in Noida. The journey was about 45-km-long but Dasgupta was charged for three times the distance covered by the Uber taxi. The total amount after the ride came up to a whopping Rs 2,935. Dasgupta took to Twitter and in a series of tweets he wrote, “Hate going public about bad service but you leave me with no choice, @Uber_India. “Had to pay Rs 2,935 for a cab from Delhi airport's T2 to my home in Noida (around 45 kms) on August 5. I was billed for 147.39 kms - halfway to Jaipur that I apparently covered in little over an hour!” he tweeted, while sharing the receipts. “This, when the booking amount was Rs 1,143.
Pick-up and drop locations are inaccurate too! Pls sort this mess and refund the excess amount. Don't ask me to send you my details; you ALREADY have them! You also need to overhaul your complaints redressal mechanism,” he said in another tweet. “I haven't heard back from your team since August 7, @Uber_India,” he tweeted.
However, on Wednesday, Dasgupta said that Uber refunded the excess amount into his account on Tuesday night. “Thanks, @Uber_India. The problem was assigned to a ‘GPS error’. But I am sorry this corrective measure came after going public and not following up through your assigned customer support mechanism,” he tweeted. Dasgupta’s tweet sparked a landslide of other people coming up with their bad experiences with the cab services in the country. “Please do take it up.
They did something similar with me, they charged me about Rs3-3.5 thousand from T3 to Noida once. I demanded a refund because they showed Rs 1.5K when I booked. They had to refund,” tweeted another user, while reacting to Dasgupta’s post.
“I have been facing the same exact problem. On 24th of July, I was shown Rs560 as the charge from IGI Airport to Kalyan Vihar...Upon reaching home, the amount shown to me was Rs1500, and despite repeated requests, there has been absolutely no response from @Uber_Support .. Shameful,” tweeted Roshan Sharma.
“Same exp with me! Looks like this is restricted to Delhi-NCR. Few drivers have hacked the way to fleece consumers I guess. Uber is least bothered and of no help.
Imagine I was billed a whopping Rs 8,000 for travelling just 35 km in a 4hr booking. The final bill showed I’ve travelled 300+km,” another Twitter user, Vijay tweeted.
