Two alert women foiled a robbery bid by two armed persons after overpowering them in State Bank of India (SBI)’s money transfer office in Badshahpur. The Gurugram Police on Tuesday released the CCTV footage showing two women fighting off armed men who were on mission to loot the bank. The women employees risked their lives and fought and not only foiled the robbery bid but also helped the police in nabbing the robber duo.
According to the police, the incident occurred on Monday around 1 pm when two persons with a gun entered the SBI money transfer office branch and locked it from inside.
Vimla Devi (45) and Poonam (28), employees of SBI’s money transfer branch in Badshahpur, overpowered Deepak (25) and Mohit (25) when they tried to loot the bank. The footage showed the thieves entering the bank on Monday afternoon and pulling out pistols from a bag. They tried to take on Vimla and Poonam at gunpoint.
At the time of the incident, the women were alone in the branch. Instead of surrendering, they snatched the pistols and raised an alarm.
The accused tried to take both the victims hostage but they fought back and snatched the pistol from one of the culprits. The two women then raised an alarm and with the help of locals, who rushed inside the bank branch, nabbed the two accused. The duo were thrashed before being handed over to the police. The police have recovered one country maid pistol and other firearms from their possession.
“We will definitely award and felicitate the two brave women employees as they have set an example for others to fight back such criminals,” Sandeep Khirwar, Gurugram Police Commissioner said.
